Custom Foot Orthotics

Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics is one of only a few practices in Australia that has invested in state-of-the-art computerised technology to manufacture foot orthotics.

The Amfit Contact Digitizer is used to create a digital file of the contour of the foot. It is unique because it uses hundreds of pins that gently push into the plantar surface of the foot, compressing the soft tissue and providing ‘offloading’ to bony areas to create a precise digital footprint. In addition, Amfit foot orthotics are made from materials that have been specially formulated to prevent an insole from compressing and thinning out, resulting in more effective support and more durable, longer-lasting foot orthotics.

Methods like POP  and foam impression blocks are also used to custom manufacture foot orthotics. In certain circumstances, these more traditional methods are still the better option.

Custom Foot Orthotics FAQs

How much do foot orthotics cost?

The cost of foot orthotics typically ranges from $400 to $650, which includes the consultation fee. This investment ensures you receive high-quality custom orthotics tailored to your specific needs, providing long-lasting comfort and support.

How long do foot orthotics last?

At Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, we prioritise durability and effectiveness in our orthotic solutions. Utilising the advanced Amfit CAD-CAM system, we craft orthotics with precision and care. Our orthotics are manufactured using CNC milling machines and specifically formulated EVA blanks with varying shore densities. This meticulous process prevents material compaction or thinning, resulting in orthotics known for their exceptional acceptance rate and longevity. It’s not uncommon for our orthotics to maintain their effectiveness for up to four years, offering prolonged support and comfort.

How often should foot orthotics be replaced?

While foot orthotics generally have a lifespan of two to three years, it’s essential to monitor their condition regularly. Proactive replacement is recommended when signs of wear or diminished effectiveness are observed. By staying attentive to the condition of your orthotics, you can ensure consistent support and comfort for your feet.

Can foot orthotics cure foot pain or conditions?

Absolutely. Foot orthotics are highly effective in alleviating a wide range of painful conditions, including metatarsalgia, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and collapsed arches. Our custom orthotics, in conjunction with medical-grade footwear, offer comprehensive solutions to address various foot problems. With proper usage and regular monitoring, foot orthotics can significantly improve foot health and alleviate discomfort.

Can foot orthotics be worn in all types of shoes?

While foot orthotics can be customised to fit into a diverse range of footwear, certain limitations may apply depending on the shoe type. Ideal shoes for accommodating foot orthotics include runners, casual sneakers, and work boots, which offer ample space and support for orthotic inserts. However, advancements in footwear design have led to the availability of orthotic-friendly options in various styles, including sandals. With the right orthotic adjustments and footwear selection, you can enjoy the benefits of foot orthotics in almost any shoe style, ensuring comfort and support throughout the day.
