Custom Foot Orthotics

Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics uses state-of-the-art 3D scanning and 3D printing technology to manufacture custom foot orthotics, custom insoles and orthopaedic insoles in-house.

Our Einscan Medixa 3D scanner is used to capture a detailed digital representation of the foot, providing our experienced Orthotists with accurate information to assist in designing a personalised foot orthosis. This digital approach allows us to create custom orthotics based on each person’s individual foot shape, functional requirements, footwear, activities and goals.

We also use 3D printing technology in-house to manufacture our custom foot orthoses. Combining advanced digital scanning and 3D printing with the clinical expertise of our Orthotists allows us to maintain control over the design and manufacturing process and produce highly personalised orthotic solutions.

Our custom foot orthotics and orthopaedic insoles can be designed to provide support, cushioning and control for a range of foot and lower-limb needs. Our Orthotists will assess your individual requirements and determine the most appropriate design and manufacturing method for you.

Custom Foot Orthotics FAQs

How much do custom foot orthotics cost?

The cost of our custom foot orthotics, custom insoles and orthopaedic insoles varies depending on the design, materials, manufacturing method and your individual requirements. Typical price for a pair from us is $610 which includes an assessment and fitting. At Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, our experienced Orthotists assess your needs before recommending the most appropriate solution.

How long do custom foot orthotics last?

The lifespan of custom foot orthotics and orthotic insoles varies depending on the materials used, activity levels, footwear and how frequently they are worn. At Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, our Orthotists use advanced Einscan Medixa 3D scanning and in-house 3D printing technology to create personalised foot orthoses designed around your individual requirements.

Your orthotics should be reviewed if they become worn, damaged, uncomfortable or no longer provide the support you need.

How often should foot orthotics or insoles be replaced?

There is no fixed replacement schedule for every person. Custom foot orthotics, custom insoles and orthopaedic insoles may need to be replaced when they become worn or damaged, their fit changes, or they no longer provide the required support.

Regular reviews with an experienced Orthotist can help determine whether your foot orthoses require adjustment, repair or replacement.

Can custom foot orthotics help with foot pain?

Custom foot orthotics may help manage certain types of foot and lower-limb pain by providing support and influencing the distribution of forces through the foot.

They may form part of a broader treatment approach for conditions and concerns such as plantar heel pain, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, arch-related problems and biomechanical issues. Our Orthotists assess each person individually to determine whether custom orthotics or orthopaedic insoles may be appropriate.

Can custom foot orthotics and insoles be worn in different types of shoes?

Yes. Custom foot orthotics and insoles can be designed for different types of footwear, although the available space and construction of the shoe can affect the design.

Runners, walking shoes and work footwear generally provide more room for orthotic insoles. Depending on your requirements, our Orthotists can discuss suitable footwear options and designs to help your custom orthotics fit comfortably.

What are orthopaedic insoles?

Orthopaedic insoles are specially designed insoles that provide personalised support, cushioning or control based on an individual’s foot and lower-limb requirements.

Unlike generic shoe insoles, custom orthopaedic insoles are designed following an individual assessment and can be tailored to your foot shape, function, footwear, activities and goals.

At Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics, our experienced Orthotists can assess whether custom foot orthotics, orthotic insoles or orthopaedic insoles are appropriate for your needs.
